Why is the credit from selling T1 holdings unavailable for use on the same day?

The credit from selling T1 holdings (Buy Today Sell Tomorrow or BTST trades) is not available for use on the same day due to regulatory guidelines defined for Margin collection & reporting. According to the rules, the funds from such transaction can only be utilized once the Early Pay-In (EPI) process is completed. This process ensures that the shares are fully settled in your demat account before the proceeds can be used for further trading or withdrawal.

For example, if Mr. X buys HDFC Bank shares for ₹5,000 on Monday and sells them for ₹5,200 on Tuesday, the funds from the sale will not be available on Tuesday. Instead, they will be accessible only on Wednesday, after the shares are settled in Mr. X’s demat account. This ensures that all transactions are properly cleared before the funds can be used.
